M.Y. JO yard report

Written by Captain in News

1st October 2012 – April 2013
This winter JO swapped the sunny shores of the Caribbean for the more industrial scenery of the shipyard in Trogir, Croatia. Whilst in the yard we have improved and serviced JO all over; from the engine room to the deck to the interior. In the engine room we completed a W6 on the main engines, which involved them being removed from the boat up through the removable patches in the main salon and out through the back doors. These were then serviced in the MTU facility in Split, Croatia. The gearboxes were also removed and sent to ZF in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Here they were serviced before being reinstalled along with the main engines in February. The lagging on both the main engine exhaust systems and the generators have been removed and replaced. We have invested in a new crane for the foredeck, to improve launching speed and efficiency.

On the deck side of things, we have removed all of the capping rails, and sanded them down to the bare wood and re-varnished them completely before fixing them back in place. Numerous paint jobs have also taken place which include; repainting the starboard side, port side and the stern.

We have also invested in a new jet powered tender, as a replacement for the Sterling Reed. The Williams 565 will arrive on JO in April, powered by a 180hp Yanmar engine. During our time in the shipyard we also spent 3 weeks in the dry dock, whilst in the dry dock the underwater section of the hull was sandblasted and a full antifouling paint system applied. All of the exterior cushions have been re-upholstered with one of the latest Sunbrella designs.

We have installed a new VSAT RaDome to enhance the internet on board. As it is on top of the mast there is no interference with the signal therefore meaning that internet will be uninterrupted on board. Along with VSAT we have installed a SeaTell 5004UA TV RaDome.

In the interior we have replaced all of the TV’s along with putting Sky boxes in all cabins. A large amount of the wall material has been replaced in the guest cabins, along with replacing the carpets throughout the boat.
Whilst in the yard we have also had a Lloyd’s survey to ensure that we comply with all the latest regulations.

Motor Yacht JO in Bequia

Motor Yacht JO in Bequia

Bequia is the largest island in the Grenadines chain. It is part of the nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines and is approximately 6 miles from the nation’s capital, Kingston.

The main anchorage of Admiralty bay is a great hideaway from the Atlantic swell and offers 2 idyllic beaches the longer being Lower Bay and the smaller being Princess Margaret Bay. We are currently anchored off Lower Bay and as I look ashore it encompasses the Caribbean dream – turquoise waters, fine sand, local children playing cricket and football on the beach and the distant sound of a steel band. It’s a true paradise.
